Brisbane engineer receives roads award
13 July 2004
Brisbane City Council engineer, Mr Bruce Hansen, today received an Austroads Achievement Award for his outstanding contribution to road transport. The award was made at the National Local Roads Congress being held in the Barossa Valley in South Australia.
More than 500 councillors, engineers and road experts from across Australia are attending the two day Congress.
Mr Hanson is the Principal Engineer, Strategic Asset Management with the Brisbane City Council. He was the convenor of the Austroads Pavement Reference Group until the end of last year. The Group oversaw a number of important Austroads projects, including the impact of new heavy vehicles on pavement wear and surfacings.
Austroads is the national organisation which brings together local government and state/territory and federal government road agencies to promote and develop standards and publications for maintaining and using the road system.
The award was presented by Mr Steve Golding, Deputy Chairman of Austroads, and Director-General of the Queensland Department of Main Roads.
ALGA President, Councillor Mike Montgomery, congratulated Mr Hansen, saying that he was a shining example of how a dedicated, skilled and enthusiastic local government professional can contribute strongly to national road research initiatives.
